Fast and Furious

I didn't see this movie, but I hate it nonetheless. I have read about the increase in street racing accidents and deaths in my own community that seem to coincide with the release of this movie. (sometimes local news only report tragedies that are "in" that week or month, but it still seems as if the carnage has increased)

There was one scene in the movie that was shown as a TV clip where this guy trys to impress his date by driving at an excessively high rate of speed without taking his eyes off of her.

They play chicken to see who will unlock stares with each other and look back at the road as they speed down anytown USA. It's really entertaining to watch, until I realize that some idiots out there WILL try this at "home", or should I say on the public streets, and no doubt maim OTHERS.

I mean, if they would only hurt themselves, then in one sense it's no business of mine. But people racing cars at what sounds like a hundred miles an hour while staring at their date rather than looking at the road ahead creates consequences in real life for others.

And even if this comes to pass, and the motion picture studio is sued, their insurance policies will kick in and insulate them.

Hey there.

In a word. B*LLOCKS.

Idiots will be idiots. They dont need movies to show them how to be one.

Movies are not to blame. Censorship is NOT the answer.

Despin out.

I agree wholeheartedly with Despin. Kids have been driving like idiots and playing chicken long before The Fast and the Furious came out.

Personally, I think the media is just looking for stories...as usual. They did the same sort of coverage here for the week the 2nd one came out, then the next week they went back to "Cat Saved by Heroic Fireman in Springettsbury Township- Elderly Woman 'Glad to Have Jingles Back'".

Ouch, the censorship word.

Are you going to tell me that the kids who laid down in the middle of freeways and urban streets after a movie came out depicting this action were also unrelated to the release of that movie? (I forgot the name of the movie, it came out 3-4 years ago). (edit, it was called "The Program")

The big differnce is at least those kids primarily putting their own lives and health at risk over others. (although I could see some poor schmuck swerving their car off the road trying to avoid one of these idiots).

A car weighs several thousand pounds, and is a weapon when handled improperly. That particular scene about the Chicken Stare should not have been included in Fast and Furious.

Oh no Alex you are so wrong. If someone is a fool and decides to drive a car dangerously then they will drive dangerously whether they have seen a film they want to imitate or not.

Whether films have violent or disturbing scenes or not people will hurt and murder other people. I agree that people will imitate films for what ever reason, but that don't mean the film is to blame. Someone unbalanced enough to commit violent acts or crimes doesn't need a film to make them do it. Sooner or later they will do it anyway.

Angry

So a person who gets into a car to see how fast they can drive while not looking at the road is a
gene deficient accident waiting to happen and therefore we should accept that and not limit the filmmaker in anyway in their "vision".

Maybe a compromise solution could be that ticket prices to these kinds of movies MUST be higher, and the tickets could be printed in blood red.

heheheh...missed point completely posts are cracking me up.

If we made films with every frame carefully avoiding anything that could possibly turn "genetic deficiencies" violent...we would not have films. I dunno how related this is, but its interesting: There was a study done on child molesters/rapists in the 80s on what turned them on, and one constant turn-on was the girl with the towel over her bum in the Coppertone or some such company sunblock ads (the girl in the TV spots was Jodie Foster!). She did not make them serial rapists, but got them sexually charged.

Now that I'm off topic anyway, kids leaving the theater thinking that movie was good should do future generations a favor by getting their ***** run over.

"Missing the point" without defining what the point is, is lame.
